The Vic Steel pages

Foreword from the 'chair'

I first met Vic Steel over 35 years ago and was introduced to him by the then owner of a model shop in Liverpool, Joe Le Bot . This meeting took place on Moel Famau , Vic was having some trouble with his flying on mode two and I suggested to him he might like to try my model on mode one to see if this would help , he took to this in minutes and he decided to change to this mode and he tells me he has never looked back , now before anyone who reads this says one mode is better than the other it is simply down to how you feel comfortable flying , my relationship with Vic had started and I knew from that day he and I would remain friends as we just 'clicked '.

Over the years I have been privileged to test fly all of Vic's many designs and these have been widely published in many of the model magazines all over the world. During our friendship he has suffered with his health but his constitution or his ability to produce models at an alarming rate has never ceased to amaze me and many others and no 'cracks ' have ever showed in his enthusiasm for our hobby or our club .

We travelled around with other club members to many competitions and were very successful carrying the name of the Clwyd Soaring Association all over the UK ,we were the first club to start and organise a Power Scale Soaring event and again Vic produced some impressive models such as his B36 ,B 57 ,D.H. Swallow along with my Magister ,Aermacchi designs although these are not mentioned in some PSS websites I have seen considering our successes .

Some of the scale gliders Vic has produced like his WLM 1 , Racek , Sagitta , Uribel, Skylark  and so many more, it's hard to keep track as I said he produces them so quickly I wish I could work as fast!.

This year of 2009 is a great celebration for Vic and the club as he reaches his 80th ( yes 80th) birthday  he has been and will be in the future an inspiration to all CSA members and a very respected friend ,long may he continue into the future,

Ray Jones ,Chairman, CSA ............
